Open Invitation to the Best Open Source

It’s synonymous with the word FREE. It promotes togetherness. It takes away competition and replaces it with healthy product availability for the masses! It’s the one thing that fuels the fire of the economy, the world. And it all began on the technological front, specifically the rise of the internet where free content was and still is KING. You probably know what that concept is, the deity of docile tendencies to simply give for the sake of giving. It is called….

OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

Yes. Hail to the King. You are the reason we love surfing the web, for sure.

To this day, open source hasn’t died down with many pieces of software still available for use either on a trial basis or an unlimited basis. Heck, Facebook and MySpace, for crying out loud, is all open source! You don’t see yourself paying any money to play Farmville, do you? It’s great stuff, really. And Linux ranks WAY up there with their operating system that is, believe it or not, FREE. You don’t pay a dime to use their system. When you think about it, it’s pretty sick. But in a good way.

If you’re looking to know what’s new on the proverbial open source satellite, you’re absolutely on the right track in tuning into this frequency. Because the news are here, and you can bet there will be more to come. Here are the best open source projects of 2010:

  • Diaspora – the truly DIY open source social network, even more so than Facebook.
  • OpenStack – revolutionary software that allows developers to create cloud infrastructures all on their own.
  • Cloud9IDE – a conglomeration of some of the best features from other IDEs like Eclipse, Netbeans and Textmate.
  • SparkleShare – a free file sharing tool right on the web, much like Wikipedia.
Believe it or not, there are actually more than that. And for 2011, many more will come. It will be a good year.
