Will 3D software and graphics gain mainstream acceptance among consumers?

With every passing year the pace of technological evolution is gaining momentum and new innovations such as 3D vision are now trying to gain mainstream acceptance among consumers.

3D is certainly an exciting new technological paradigm and it has far reaching potential impact on society. From billion dollar blockbuster movies such as Avatar, sophisticated new gaming systems such as Microsoft Xbox, advanced new 3D televisions from Samsung and Sony, to 3D face, body, cornea and fingerprint recognition technology, 3D graphics is a powerful new development which will transform mass consumer experience.

A future can be imagined where all financial transactions will use cornea and fingerprint recognition 3D technology. Credit cards will become obsolete at restaurants, supermarkets, movie theatres, resorts, spas and ATMs since consumers will just press their thumb on a 3D scanner which will automatically recognize their identity and carry out the desired transaction.

There are now laptops and mobile devices available which can use 3D technology to not only recognize fingerprints and cornea, but they can now incorporate sophisticated motion detecting software which can identify and track emotions, mood, and consequently even thoughts.

3D televisions, gaming systems, and movie theatre screens are now so sophisticated that a Super Bowl final, or Baseball World Series can be experienced in the living room as if the TV viewing consumer was present in the middle of the field watching it live and almost brushing against his or her favorite players – only a step short of shaking hands and getting their autographs.

The one long term consequence might be the adverse impact on mental and physical health with such intense audio visual experience on a daily basis. How kids respond to such visual stimulus, how adults cope with it on a daily basis, and how it will affect their work and personal life remains to be seen.
