Hey guys - what is the processor useage in Winamp with 3dnow! enabled. I was speaking to some mates, and they reconed that it should be around 10-15%ish, but on my MX300, its barely above when the processor is idling. Just wondering |

It uses about 13-14% on mine with 3DNow! enabled. The funny thing is that 13-14% with 3DNow! disabled also. The processor is a K6-2 350. |

I've never actually noticed a difference in processor usage with 3DNow in WanAmp, but I think there are less or no skips and jits in the flow of music when enabled. Especially when scrolling, moving or opening windows. That's just my observations. Seeya |

What are you using to measure CPU useage? Im using System Monitor, but I know that its pretty damn unreliable |

I was using System Monitor, too |

Wintop is part of the MS Kernal Toys package. It seems pretty good since you can monitor the usage of the winamp.exe file and whatever files may be running in the background. I'll find a link. |

It's in the POWER AND KERNEL TOYS section. http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads / [This message has been edited by dethrai (edited August 14, 1999).] |

Guys, I'm not sure where you are getting all these huge processor usage numbers for... Winamp on my k6-2 333 here is around 3-4%.. And that's measured using task manager in Windows NT, which is very accurate. Steve |

osiris (nice name by the way) are you running NT? maybe that's the difference. i'm getting 12% according to sysmon with 98se |

Installed Winamp version 2.24 and now have a processer usage of between 10-12% |

Its about 9-10% (max) with wintop. But thats just the percentage compared to other active processes (all processes ALWAYS add up to 100%, but the cpu is not always 100% used). |

Folks, I think the problem is simply due to the inability to accurately mesareu performance on Windows 9x. For processor utilization and speed tests, I would seriously recommend using NT for your benchmarks. Steve |

Well, I was Running Winamp decodeing an mp3 (not just playing a wav)... and the most common value on the task monitor (as in, eyeballing it) was 1%, _overall_, I was getting occaisional blips at 5% when the HDD accessed, and I suspect winamp was prebuffering. I'm running *cough* win2k *cough* K6-2 350 (3dnow decoding enabled), 196 Meg Pc100 ram, AWE64 (ISA <- hense high cpu unsage).
and here's the cruncher, with _nothing_ else running (i.e. no systray progs or anything like that), overall usage was 1% |
