I just got the chance to get a celeron 400 with BX chipset board (on win98). I over clocked it to 500@83fsb. It completes a work unit in between 9 and 10 hours, is this OK?

Problem is that it will complete a WU then stops (running seticache in offline mode) and won't start another unit until I use the machine, further problem being I am usually 100 miles away from it . Its like power management kicks in when the unit is complete, only I disabled it in the bios and in windows. I saw on the seti cache page that there was a problem with it stopping after one unit on win2k but that was fixed, and as I said i'm running win98.

Has anyone any ideas as to what may be wrong, apart from a seticache bug. I am not used to intel machines, so maybe there is something quirky in the setup I missed.

mort your time is right on par, my celeron 433@541 does a wu in 9 hrs 30 min, but as for your problem with seti cache, i dont have a clue.

Thanks for the reply Fredro, at least the thing is up to speed even if it isn't running most of the time

Next time I can get to it I'm going to try some of the other seti batch files, because the only thing I can think of is a bug in seticache.

Mort, I am sure you have done this but
Right click on desk top, click properties and select ScreenSaver tab then towards the bottom of the screen just above the Apply Button do you have a button for Settings if so select and set hard drive to never.

I just use a batch file

Seti.bat
---------------------------
e:
:start
cd\seti
seti24 -stop_after_process
cd\seti\1
seti24 -stop_after_process
cd\seti\2
seti24 -stop_after_process
goto start
----------------------------------

I renamed the command line ver to seti24.exe and put a copy of it in each dir.

And you time looks good to me also

Thanks Frank, I will give the batch file a go when the next unit completes.

The hard disk & monitor are set to never and the power scheme to always on. I was wondering if there are any files I should have from the intel site with reguards to power management, as I only have win98 first edition (could have fixes since it was released), so I'll try to check that out as well.

Not sure Intel site would be the place to check. I would search at microsoft.com
