Im sorry, but The Register WILL be proved wrong here. How on earth could Gateway justify this??? The Athlon is only THE fastest (x86/x87) processor on the market.

Hehehe, I'm sending them emails from all my accounts... I have like 10 email accounts.... A HAHAHAHHAHHA!

I'm sooooo sick of hearing about the Register. They're a bunch of half-baked rumor-freaks who will tell everyone straight face, if it suits them, that water runs uphill, money grows on trees, and that either intel, IBM, VIA, or the tooth fairy is gonna buy AMD. I say boycott the darned register for being for brown nosing Intel so much.

Money doesn't grow on trees?
Bugger, that's what I'm doing wrong! I thought burying my savings would help my overdraft.........
Adrian posted 08-11-1999 11:30 ET (US)
Money will be growing on trees when Intel buy AMD.
akuma posted 08-11-1999 12:36 ET (US)
to do list:
plant 3 money trees
buy intel
lunch with gates about ms linux
sell intel production plants to amd for cheap.
turn intel headquarters into yoyo factory

My Reply :

We appreciate your interest in Gateway!

I'm very sorry, but we are notified about new items just days before they
are available to the public, and I don't have any information on that yet.
I wish I could be of more help!

Thank You,

Subject: Athalon Systems

I have a gateway computer and I am planning to buy a new one.I want to buy
the latest technology meaning the AMD Athalon.I heard that gateway will not
be selling these kind of systems. Is this true ?And why I thought gateway was
always ahead of the market.I am probably going to buy an IBM since they will
be selling the athalon systems.

Thank You,
Dominik

So Intel decided to bribe Gateway. Well, when Athlons are a smash hit in the retail/direct/oem sector, and basically castrate the Xeon, I'm sure that 60 million or whatever kickback intel gave them will go to buying the Gateway Execs a clue.

One place here in Finland also has Athlons listed on their price-list. 550 costs €604 ($645) and 600 costs €890 ($950). If you also want an MSI-6167 motherboard and fan, you have to pay €168 ($180) more.

I wanted to give the prices in euros, so that all of us in the euro lands would understand them better (though there are just two of us?).

Update: I found 500 and 650 listed as well for €417 ($445) and €1371 ($1463) respectively. MSI-6167 is available separately for €190 ($203).
