There was a post on one of the other forums the other day about getting more people to read and post in the forums, well as far as I can see this isnt really that bad. Since the 7th July (approx the start date), there have been 952 posts averaging 17 ish a day.

The problem is that we have many, many different forums for people to post in. What does everyone think about reducing the numbers and generalising the topics a little more in order to create more of a community where the regulars can hang out?

The bottom line is that more people will check more often when they believe that the forums are more active (more than one new post in each section per day).

That will create a pretty bad management nightmare. I split up the subjects so that new visitors have a chance to get into the swing of things without perishing in the attempt to read a flat hierarchy of subjects to find something that interests them.

IMHO, Adrian can be right. 3DNow.net has only 3 sections, and in fact just 2 are really used. Maybe that could help increase the activity here...

I agree with Adrian.
There are to many forums for the amount of posts. Generalising the topics would help.

I also agree, its just too many forums to visit to check out everything that is going on! I think if we had about 4-5 it would be good.

I disagree.

If we lump them together we'll have a nightmare once more people post with either threads that take forever too load or a shitload of topics within the few individual forums, it is very hard to untangle that later on.

Nobody has a problem with finding new stuff because of the alert lights that tell everyone which topics have new posts in them if they accept the cookie from the BBS.

Since there aren't so many posts in some of the forums why not just put those together? Just take the Software section. The only place there are regular postings is the 3DNow! Workshop. I don't think there are basis for each of the other topics to have their own forum, so why not just unite these topics under one general topic where everything can be discussed? If, in the future, there are many postings about the same subject, that subject could then have its own forum.

i think the number of the forums is right, maybe a fast list of new topics (all areas) somewhere would help too.

I for one think there are too many forums around. You'd better reduce the number of forums, that would really increase the traffic...
