I see nothing wrong with the "referral" programs that are FREE to join and as a big plus...you get checks in the mail. I enjoy stats and seeing how many people I can get to join. I have a "tree" started at ProcessTree and like watching it grow, even though there is nothing in it for me at this time and will continue if there never is. About getting paid, hey, I'll take it. I belong to some programs where the number of referrals I have is several times the amount of people that currently are members of DCypher. DCypher.Net will exist for as long as I can envision. There is a VERY important need for free computing power for research and other projects. It is our responsibility (as we are the ones who will also profit from this) to foster the betterment of the human race. While we aren't likely to come up with ground breaking technical solutions (we being the DCypher.Net team), we all feel very strongly that continued support for this research is essential. Myself, I've waited a long time for something like PT to come along. I will probably always work on a few good projects at my expense, but now with a little luck PT well get off the ground and I can start getting a little reimbursement for all of my time and energy not to mention the electric bill/upkeep for 5 computers running 24/7;-) You need not to worry, there will always be programs that you can volunteer your time and money on, if not you could always come over to my place and mow my lawn or something for FREE! I promise to give you some stats, like how many blades of grass you cut an hour or something similar to keep you happy:-) Maybe it isn't a good idea for PT to promote the program the way they are, maybe they should have just started the same way as the rest of the programs and then just started paying for cycles. Then again I don't remember people complaining about Yahoo.com or TravelZoo.com giving away free stock and then giving you more when you got your friends to sign up:-) I don't see courts shutting down programs like AllAdvantage for their same promotion practices. There are many more examples. The Internet is a powerful tool! Some of you should use it to inform yourselves on what an a pyramid scheme and MLM really are. Maybe you will then begin to realize that your misinformed negative cries towards PT not only hurt such programs but hurt the people who have waited a long time, patiently for just such an opportunity. (5 computers) "spare" cycles USUALLY come from one or two computers. i for one dont care if they do or dont pay for cpu time. i do however find it hard to believe that a ever so efficient program needs to pay people to run it. a few of the other projects are very large, and have a great deal of participants that never ask for cash, or holld out there hand like a starving ethiopean. oh and if you lived close enough to me, i would mow your lawn for free, just to have you keep the blade stats. Will this possibility be implemented in one client program? or you're going to release some separate clients for both - paid and non-paid projects? - you mentioned sth like "mixing" projects (FAQ). Is there going to be a possibility to run both paid and non-paid project at the same time on the same machine (2 processors and one IP)? - what about people that joined PT and have many referrals? How they are going to be paid for job? Who will be preffered - we or they? I mean: If I now join PT I won't have referrals at all and when they want to join our GF non-paid project they have the same chance to get the prize as we - running GF clients since 20th of December I suppose new higher prizes at least compensate it for us? - I think payments will be at least comparable to offered by AllAdvantage etc. to make people choose rather our projects or even resign and move here? - what with PT and DCN in long run, are you going to create one group and website for both? - can you approximate when first paid project is going to be launched? This is something that will be implemented in a new round of clients. It will allow you to switch seemlessly and also query what projects are available. I don't see why you couldn't. It likely won't be a normal configuration, but it should certainly be possible with a little bit of ingenuity. Put the fact that you can choose a charity in big letters where you explain the referral program (and maybe on top of that text/page :-).
