Grand Prix Legends (GPL)

The most authentic PC racing sim of all time.
Also the most hardware intensive sim of all time.

The major problem with GPL is that it has an extremely advanced physics model. This physics model only works 100% properly when it's able to render to the screen at it's limit of 36 fps. (Once this is reached, there is then processor overhead for the physics)

With a P2/III/Celery this is not a problem for multiplayer with anything from a 350 upwards.
On a K6-2, a 450 only just manages to stay topped out with a Voodoo2, if some graphics options are turned down.

As for single player against CPU drivers, where the ai causes a BIG performance hit, you can expect ~10fps from the back of a full grid start.

With 3DNow! enhancements, this game could be even better... (so long as they can fix what they've broken with the new patch!)

Agreed!!!

Question for you programmers out there (my last programming was 6502 assembly on a c64...a few years ago...)

How useful is 3DNow! for speeding up physics / AI calculations, ie, would it give anything useful to a game such as GPL?
