I think our short term strategy will have to be adding of new members that already have units credited but that are still without team. If you know this kind of person, recruit them!

In the long term we'll have to generate our own output by running the software when our computers are unused. I admit to cheating some there since I let the Celeron 450 run SETI while I work on the K6-III, but then there always is a Master and an apprentice, right? And the apprentice gets to crunch numbers.

I set the SETI@Home client to always run and I didn't notice any slowdown or anything. I played TFC yesterday and I didn't notice any slowdown while playing (or maybe it was because of my lag?)

I noticed that I my Average CPU time per work unit is very good (about 16 h). I'm using a K6-2 350, not really a Monster-Processor so (I think) the only reason for this is that I'm using the SETI@Home LINUX-Client. It's allways running (at lowest priority), not only as a screensaver, and it does not seem to slow-down the system.
Armin, I read that you are running Linux on your K6-III, how about starting SETI@Home with a script during the boot-process?

why not invite workers at AMD to join in? or would they join in in the 10000+ employee company teams? We could chip in and buy a UltraSPARC/II with 2 GB RAM and see where that goes.. My computer heats up when running SETI lol and it crashes.. I don't know if its the heat but I try to download SP5 form microsoft, and it always crashes between the download.. im thinking its win nt/netscape? netscape had been crashing a lot lately,.. but if i can make sure that its not heating(i do feel my CPU rising in temp between idle mode and total use mode!) i will run it all the time, exceopt when playing games.. My friend plans to set up a linux server at college on a 450MHz K6-III and leave it on all night.. he wants to join, so we can get 3 results every two days from him..

Regarding AMD I contacted Drew Prairie and he is spreading the word and expects a good turnout. We also should post on forums at other sites that are well frequented by AMD employees, like Slashdot.Org, JC's and Ace's to point them to the Team.

Get to it

What causes the extreme difference in time it takes to complete data units? My first one took 29 hours on my K6-III 400, 128 MB SDRAM, second took 17, third 17, and fourth only took 14 hours.

I only run it as a screensaver overnight / when I'm not around : what is causing the difference in processor time?

Hey A.,

What about a permanent page where we could gather all the www.3dnow.org teamwork? That way you shouldn't have to post reminders on the news twice a week...

Is the text-only version of the client faster?

II envy y'all! I have spent 27 hrs and have 50% done. Of course it isnt text, and I can only run SETI now(due to recent heat wave) in the morning since it overheats :-)

Heat-wave? Here in south Texas it gets 100+ everyday in the summer a heat-wave for us is days that it gets 110+! I once had a TNT board melt because I had it overclocked and the A/C was out

Hiyas all, just to say hi, and to show my face, I've got a small confession to make, I'm not just running SETI on an AMD, I will be running on an AMD K6-2 350, an intel 166, and when I go into uni an ULTRA SPARC 25, and let me tell you a little secret, my AMD whips the living *Beep* out of the SPARC. I'll be popping as many results as I can get my computer to generate, when I'm not using it.

Another fact the Linux client is 5 Times faster than the win98 version.
