Yes, great job! Aaargh! I'm soon out of top 100... (I hope you can live with it I'm taking this personal). Actually I ran Seti yesterday for 3.5 hours or 20%. Where am I gonna get six spare machines, a poor lad me? IP: Logged |

akma, what are you running S@H on? 33hrs/WU is not too bad (my p200 gets 36 or so), but are you running 24/7, or just as a screen saver? Depebnds on your machine, but you may be able to keep in the top 100 with a bit of luck. Visit http://www.setiweb.org for info on tips & tricks to keep the client running at 100% speed. Well, I'm glad you asked daviddth. Since I joined Seti@Home on May 16 (should I be considered a veteran?), I've ran Seti on three machines. The iP133 at work was a bit too slow for me, I let it run a whole weekend. When I left for home on Monday it was at 75% after 75 hours. I took the unit with me and uninstalled the software. V1.00 on Win95 with 128MB RAM. No thanks! My iP200MMX does the job in 20 hours in Linux. Most of the units have been processed by my K6-2 350, 18 hours in Linux, 28 in Win98 with 96MB. Currently I'm using a K6-III 400. I have no whole unit times, but an estimate would be 17.5 hours in Linux and 21 hours in Win98. Why is my average time 33+ hours then? Well, it's the version 1.00 of the Windows client to blame. That thing calculated the gfx even when not drawn, so my average times on a K6-2 350 were 62 hours/unit for at least 10 units. It takes long to get rid of that emblem. I've always ran Seti as a background process. I hardly ever leave my machine(s) on for the night. I've never completed a unit with the CLI version, since to me it seemed to be as slow as the gfx client. I've concentrated on the RC5 project lately, but yesterday I decided to finish the unit I've had for some three weeks. It took a week for me (from Sunday to Sunday) to finish my very first unit. Happy now? PS. Watch out all you RC5'ers... [This message has been edited by Akma (edited September 03, 1999).] IP: Logged |

>Well, I'm glad you asked daviddth. OK. I see your point. When I looked up your stats I thought you must have been having problems. I too have been running S@H from day 1, but on what was a P200, then upgraded that machine to an AMD k6-2-400. I get, on average 4.5%/hr from the K6 under Win 98, and 2.8% from the P200 running W98. This has allowed me to get about 170 WU's so far, but I do run the PC's 24/7, and since you are not, this explains your lower WU count. David IP: Logged |
