Well I found one way to get my speed up for S@H crunching - a new Motherboard. I ditched my trusty SiS Motherboard for a gigabyte one. Less L2 cache, but it DOES have a AGP port - something my SiS did not! just updating the MB, new AGP 32MB graphic card, and a PCI soundcard gained me a 25% improvement over previous runs. I went from 4.2%/hr to 5.5%/hr in the last 4 WU's. Now I'm aiming for consistant sub 18 hour times :-) IP: Logged |

so do you think if i replace my soundblaster awe64 isa with a pci soundcard, i could improve my throughput? i did finally get this to crunch a unit in 15hr 39 minutes. i didnt use it but just a few minutes lastnight. [This message has been edited by fredro (edited October 18, 1999).] IP: Logged |

I doubt that just a sound card would make a difference - I just got a good deal for the card I installed. Probably not as good as the AWE 32, but dam close and a LOT quicker :-) Dave IP: Logged |

I have a K6-3 450 w/ AX59Pro mobo, 128 MB PC100, TNT2 Ultra, SB Live sound, the fastest WU I ever put out was 20 hours...What's the deal?? I'm not running screen saver mode. Ray IP: Logged |

i dont run anything in the background, i have all the memory timings on turbo, hardrive is set to dma mode, i have seti set to always runs. also my 450 is overclocked to 500.(5x100) i have screen saver set to none, and have the monitor shut off after 15 minutes. make sure your L-3 cache is enabled in bios. you should get a wu off faster than 20 hours. my 266 oc to 300 gets 19 to 21 hours. i hope you figure it out. also i dont have any background for my desktop,no sound coming into or leaving windows, and active desktop is disabled. all of those eat memory. Hi Rave I have a K62-350@400 (4x100) and am avg about 18.5 to 19hrs per unit. I got mine set to blank screen and monitor off in 1 min and my hard drives power down in 3 min. try doin a couple when your not using the puter ( like when your sleepn ) and see what kinda speed you can do, s/b much lower than what your gettn now and let us know. I am curious to see what the K6-3's will do a unit in when that is all that the puter is doin. keep at it dudes John IP: Logged |

I have am update: The average WU on my K6-3 450 is 16 hours. When I first posted, I had just put the CPU in, replacing my 475 (o/c 504). That 16 hours is with somethings running in the background, nothing major though. I can't set my drives to UDMA because of the clicking sound when I burn music CDs (VIA chipset), but I don't think that effects my WU times. I do have the screen saver disabled, memory set to Turbo. I thought that the K6-3 would do better than that on WUs I also have my 475 (oc/500) at work on a DFI P5BV3+ mobo doing units in 19-20 hours. Ray IP: Logged |

Two things I'm doing to make my WU's go a little faster. Do this after you are done useing the computer. 1. Set screen resolution and color depth to 640x480 and 256 colors 2. Set screen saver to blank. My times improved from 18:50 minutes to 17:35 on average and I have over 100 units done. I started this little change when I was about 65 units complete so my times are in the 13 hour range. I have: Just let it purculate over night and seems to do a unit and a half a day now. My 266 went from 28 hours to about 19 also, on NT. K6-266 not overclocked and not k6-2 IP: Logged |

I just put the command line version on my NT box(k6-266). My assumption is that it will speed up at least 10% with a sub 17 hr time. No graphics to draw so all horsepower to crunching the data. No information from the Seti site nor a FAQ. IP: Logged |
