any contribution is good doesnt have to be someone with 700+ units :-) . Or the guy who plays Myth2 online with his Athlon 650 :-). We just now need some productive weeks and we'll be heading for a position in the 30's :-). Regards, Pieter IP: Logged |

You got that right Pieter any contribution is more than welcome 700 , 70 or 7 does not matter. They all count and thanks to everyone on the team we are holding or own in the World and we will climb up the ranks as time goes on. - Frank IP: Logged |

I agree that the WU number completed is not the point. I have almost 1400 WU's, but does that make me more important to S@h than, say, Justin Fredericks who has completed 45 WU's down in 158'th place? I dont think so, as we are both helping in the S@h program, which is the main point. David IP: Logged |

(128mb mushkin pc133 handpicked for the athlon) i hope its good memory, i sure paid alot for it. i got the asus k7m, western digital 10gig 7500rpm ultradma 66 hardrive, and a enlight midtower. i sure hope this puppy puts out 7 hour units. im getting 8hr 30minutes from my celeron 366@523, so i really expect this athlon to shine, i`ll have alomst twice the amount of $ in the athlon system. fredro, that Athlon system setup sounds awesome . I just did a clean install of W98 on my Quantum7200 rpm HD and added a K6 III 400 to my system and am now cooking out units in about 12h17m on Ver20 cmdln, that will sure help out the team. The system seems to be twice as fast as before, just opening Adobe photoshop before would take some 10 seconds, now the program opens in like 2 seconds, that makes me pretty happy. I have one little problem, I was 60% into a unit with the 20 GUI version and can't seem to get it to see the state.sah to finish that unit. It keeps trying to set up my account again. Anyone know how i can get it to recognize that 60% done unit so i can finish it ? Thanks John IP: Logged |

Nice system fredro err, I sort of also have an athlon 600 and k7m (since Monday, couldn`t wait another 3 days for a msi 6167).Using ver 2 Cli, fastest time so far is 6hrs 32min and slowest 6hrs 56min. So far I have over clocked the fsb to 106mhz, cant go beyond that with my crappy PC100. You should be able to go to 110mhz with quality memory like that. Thats if you want to overclock? IP: Logged |

Fredro, I am running win98 and ver 2 Cli. Have you checked if your board has super bypass enabled? Remember you need revision C stepping 5 or later of the 750 northbridge for it to work. My k7m is revision C stepping 6, so I assume that yours will also be able to use the feature. If you want to check what revision you have try this utility: http://www.slota.com/files/chipid.zip The lastest BIOS also enables super bypass. Also in the bios did you load the optimal settings? I lost a few units when the servers were down , as I was away (I pick my times), thankfully the k6-2 had some buffered units to help the stats. p.s. has anyone else noticed higher scores in recent work units?

thanks mort. i enabled super bypass, it does have the irongate. i went into the bios and loaded opt settings a few minutes ago. im running the gui client though, i wonder if that is any slower than version 2client? it looks like if i want to go higher in mhz i may have to get a gf device, 108 is all i can get, 109 got into windows but locked the system when i started up sisoft sandra. running 1.7v core vtg. aavid heatsink and dual fans with a open case. yes the cmdline is faster, along with enabling the irongate. im 10% into the next unit and according to seti watch it should finish in 6hrs55min. its got a score of 0.2313, so i dont think its a dud unit. thanks again mort for the tips. IP: Logged |

How do you resolve ECC memory errors? (The Windows Blue Screen Fatal Execption Errors) I been having a lot of these in the past week. IP: Logged |
Argos Follower of Athlon |
posted February 18, 2000 12:36
It depends on what is causing the errors. If it's the memory that is causing the problem, then you have to replace the memory. However, if it happens when using a particular application, then either repair the application or don't use that program. It could be that the program is not compatible with Windows. Generally, you can tell if it's your memory causing the problem by checking the memory address on the BSOD everytime that it happens. If the same address keeps coming up, then it's a good chance it's a physical hardware problem, and not a software problem. Here is a link to a MS page that explains what Fatal Exceptions are and where to find help troubleshooting them. What Are Windows 95/98 Fatal Exception Errors IP: Logged |

posted February 19, 2000 11:49
It stopped doing the fatal exceptions once I set the memory timing back to turbo (it was at 8ns), and set to cache some of my ram in the BIOS again IP: Logged |

If we got 400 members, how many are actually active? 100? Maybe 150? We have so many dead accounts on here (though they contributed units) that its not even funny. We need ACTIVE members. I still have dreams of whooping AnandTech's group, and I think we can do it if we actually wanted to. -PK ------------------ IP: Logged |

Argos I found what was causing the BSOD's. It was my 2 month old K6-2 500 dying a slow death. Could I have ruined it by not putting that special gel that you put between the CPU and the fan's heat sink (I didn't know anything about a special gel when I bought the CPU)? I've temporarily put in my Cyrix MII PR300 (233 MHz actual). S@H v2.0 is 6 or 7 hours faster with the Cyrix MII than v1.06. with v1.06 the Cyrix CPU avg. 32.5 hours, it is 25.5 hours with v2.0 [This message has been edited by DanBall (edited February 22, 2000).] IP: Logged |
