All that for a Duron?? They should've used a T-bird!

Gotta admit though, that is insane that it even worked at 1.2 Ghz

amazing, really amazing

Today I picked up a 600mhz duron and a ASUS A7V .

So far I've had only one problem, which was fitting the board into the case, due to the size of the thing. I let it run at 600 for a few hours then could resist no longer. So I coloured in the L1 golden bridges with a HB pencil and, well, now its running at 800 at default voltage. I did have it at 840 (105fsb) but once windows had loaded I got a message about a registry error. So I took it back down to 800, at least until I can find a decent heatsink/fan.

I finally got the marks on the L1 bridges thick enough to allow me to change the multiplier in the KT7-RAID bios. For a while the marks weren't thick enough to allow changing, but I kept trying and it finally works. I was able to get my 600MHz Duron to 900MHz, and once I got it to 1GHz, but I got a bios checksum error.

In the BIOS it says my CPU is running at 109F to 113F at 600MHz@1.5v, but going up to 900MHz@1.75v it is something like 134F

DanBall can you oc even higher with a 1.85V voltage?
What comment can you make on the reviews floting on the web saying the Durons's core can crack under the heatsink? Was it esay to install or do you have to be real careful?

Sure I can go up to 1.85v (with the KT7/KT7-RAID) with my Duron. I've heard that the Epox 8KTA lets you go as high as 2.05v. Yes the Duron was easy to install, and I have taken the CPU in and out of the socket several times and put the Heat Sink back on and off several times as well without ever damaging it.

I just installed my new Duron, and no problems here. I was extra careful after hearing all the horror stories, it went on pretty easy using an Alpha FCPAL35T.

Overclocking note: It was a Duron 750 and has been running stable at 900 since day 1 with a voltage increase to 1.75V I got it to boot at just over 1GHz, but brought it back down for stability. CPU Temp is listed at 100F.

Just curious. Any of you folks tried the beta 2.7X GUI on any T-bird/Durons? I am hearing about kick ass WU times in the 3 hr range.

I found out that I can get my 600MHz Duron to run at 500MHz, 1.100v and 3.20v I/O, and the computer will still POST, and with a temperature of approx 89-93F.

It will even run at 600MHz at the same voltages.

The system itself runs at 80-84F.

The usual temperature is 109-114F while running at 600MHz, 1.500v, and 3.30v I/O.

Whether or not it will work in Windows, I don't know, I'm not finished building the computer.

The highest I can get the CPU to run is 981MHz (9.0x109) at 1.600v and 3.3v I/O and a temperature of approx 134F, after that I get a BIOS Checksum error.

******EXTRA******
I did manage to get it to 1GHz at 1.750v, 3.40v I/O and run at 150F, and POST, but no matter how high the voltage was it wouldn't boot from the bootdisk I made. It would only go as far as "verifying DMI pool........" and lock up.

My 600MHz Duron will finish a WU in approximately 8:30 to 9:30 max if left alone, and this is at default speed.

I might think about it. What do I do if I want to join since you seem to be so insistent about it.

I just joined the team. Only 3 (as of the time I posted this) are from the 600MHz Duron so far. I sometimes can do 2 WU a day. In don't leave it on at night because the power LED is too bright.

Welcome aboard DanBall. Glad to see you put your units where your discussion is. As for that blindingly bright LED, have you tried a piece of tape?

I got my new HS&F for my CPU earlier today (10/4/00). The CoolerMaster DP5-6H51. The old HS&F, the CoolerMaster DP5-5G11 would have the CPU run at 113F while idle, and 123F while running SETI@home. Now with the CoolerMaster DP5-6H51 it runs 113F while running SETI@home. I think it is something like 104F idle.

I have my Duron running at 972MHz, 1.750v, and 3.50v I/O. The temperature is 134F while running SETI@home. How long and how safe is it to run it at this speed? Oh, yeah, If you want to know the memory speed at 9.0x108, just add about 64MB/s to the numbers.
