Just got a beta test request for the CL version of S@H 3.0, so I guess the final release is only a few weeks away.

On the WU provided for this test, it took about 16 hours on my K6-III which is about the same as the old client. But as the S@H home page said the processing time will vary a lot with the 3.0 client.

But I haven't tried the GUI version against the CL version yet, I guess it will be slower than the command line as usual.

I just finished my first cmdline30 unit and it was about 1hr longer than normal, i'll try another but it doesn't seem to be any faster.

14h7m compared to my usual 12 to 13hr's per unit on a K6 III 400@400 .

I'm not going to run the version 3 clients until they require us to. the fastest time the v2.0 nonintel commandline client gives me (so far) 7h 55m with my 600MHz Duron at 700MHz, compared with 8h 25m at 600MHz.

Danball, so you will return faster results instead of more complete ones? Each for his own taste I guess.

Fyi, my times with the GUI version (at least previous cmdlines didn't work with win95, even with the winsock2 update) are currently between 17 and 20 hours. Only 5 units so far though. And these on K6-2/300@336

With the previous version my times were approx 15,5 hours so a noticeable increase.

Interestingly enough the first 10% or so go very fast, when the client searches pulses/triplets. That 10% goes under an hour, determines from the couple units I've watched more closely.

ps. My roomie has a Duron 600 running at 918Mhz and his times have improved from approx 9 hours to 4-5,5 hours with the new GUI...

So far, my k6-3 is showing ~ 10 or 15% faster and my k6-2 around 5-10% faster. The k6-3 gets a big boost from the on-die cache, as expected ... but the k6-2 speed-up is a bit of a surprise. Maybe the k6's beefy L1 cache is having more hits with v.3's tighter code ...

Mmmm ... faster ... more calculations ... I dig it ...

Masoch

ps -- does this mean we finally got the optimized Seti that Osiris had promised? :O

3.0 CLI is wonderful!!

My Duron 700@954 was taking just over 8hrs with the 2.4CLI...

Now, just under 4hrs!! Amazing!

I'm going to have to increase my buffer size now.

I think you mistunderstood me Voriax. I was stating the fastest time I've seen my Duron complete a WU, and so far I've completed 12. I'm sending in all my WU's, but for both my machines (AMD K6-2 500 w/128MB PC100 SDRAM and the AMD Duron 600 w/128MB KingMax PC150 SDRAM) when I tested the v3.0 GUI, it took longer, double the time on my Duron, and about 5 hours more on the K6-2 500. It must have been a slow WU or something.

DanBall, you said that you won't be using 3.0 version until required..that's what I was referring to. Also didn't you mention on another thread that you didn't even let a WU run thru because it was so slow under 3.0

So you use 2.x and thus get faster units?

I let that one WU only run to 48% with the GUI because it was taking 16hours, so I uninstalled the v3.0 GUI and let the v2.0 commandline versoin finish it and got about 8.5 hours out of the sane WU.

Just installed and running the v3.0 cmdline client on my Duron 600@700MHz. I like the time its giving me, an estimated 5h 30m to complete the current WU. At 600MHz v2.0i486-nonintel-cmdline would comlete a WU in 9hrs, at 700MHz the v2.0i486-nonintel-cmdline would complete a WU in 8.5hrs.
I've also got it running on my AMD K6-2 500 computer as well, but it is slower (about 23-24hrs instead of 16-18hrs) with this particular WU, and it keeps searching for pulses every .005hz

I just finished that WU on my Duron 600@700. It finished with a time of 5:07, I downloaded a new WU, and it looks like it will be finished in a time of approx 4:45 (At 45% complete, Cpf is better than a Sun UltraSPARC IIi at times, and usually better than a Pentium II/III-not coppermine). Note the fact I am using SETISpy and SETI Monitor.
