My K6-2 400 gets 835 Kkeys/sec at 472 Mhz and 895 Kkeys/sec at 504 MHz with the Win32 CLI client. IP: Logged |

Since I can't top you in the AMD/PC field with my K6-III 400, I try it in the Amiga field. My A1200 crunches keys at a whopping speed of 2kkeys/s! That's over 37 hours per unit. If I'm in jeopardy of dropping out of the Top 100, I'll take the CPU power of her (in English everything is called him/her and not it) in use. Beware (intel)! IP: Logged |

Well, this topic has come up once again... RC5 depends on processor cores and clock frequency. This means that a K6-2 and a K6-III at the same clockspeed will perform equally. And no, RC5 doesn't benefit from 3DNow!  Just to give you a quick reference, the Athlon core is on top, beating P6 cores by ~10%, while K6s are left way behind. Set the forum to show all the topics and look at the benchmarks that we posted a couple of months ago in an older thread. I'm currently running a Celeron 366 @ 568 and it pops about 1,7 MKeys/s. The cheapest RC5 cracking machine right now should be based on an Abit BP6 with dual celerons, though I can't wait for Hotrail to announce some Athlon SMP chipsets

I think its something to do with a 'barrel shifter' or something. Anyway, the K6 doesn't have one, so it has to emulate it or something, resulting in slower speeds. Doh! I hate having to admit my K6-3 450 is slower than a C366 for RC5. Anton IP: Logged |

Then go do Seti I got a Celery 450A and a K6-2 300. Both are running on Seti. My 450 is only a couple of hours faster than the K6 Anyway umm.... I chose to do Seti because although there are more people doing it I fell my chances of getting in the top100 and staying there are better. Sometihng like that anyway. Because it takes so long to do a single work unit. heh. I was doing rc5 but all those bastards... er.. nice people who want to contribute to the team effort started passing me. I was in 14th place but as I started to fall and I couldn't be bothered trying anymore. Yeh.. I gave up. Naughty me. But umm I'm now in 30th place or sometihng. I think it'll only be 20-30 days or so before I'm in Seti's top 100. And if we upgrade that K6-2 to a K6-3 you can be sure I'll be trying my best to stay there.
Umm... sometihng like that. I mean all these people who do 16 hrs WU's on seti with their K6-3 450's get me sad... eheh... It takes around 32 hrs or so for one work unit with the Celeron. Bah. Don't worry... I like AMD... only reason I got Intel cause it was cheaper... by around $500 at the time Basically.. AMD = Seti. Intel = Rc5. :/ P.S. Hmm, doing a little math I'd recon it is easier to be in the Top 100 in a team of 72 people than in a team of 320 ... but that is just me I guess

Well, it might be cold down there in Germany, but it's not cold here in Finland. As a matter of fact, the thermometer shows plus 7°C and that's not cold (it's freezing). And I'm sure the temperature will get up at least by a degree by noon.
Besides it'll be summer soon (as soon as the next millenium comes, almost :/ ). And if by any chance I would feel a bit cold (didn't I just feel that way this morning) I have my CPUs to keep me warm. I just remove the fan/sink combo, start RC-5 and touch the CPU... PS.
